On October 22, 2026, SIHOO participated as a supporting partner in the United Nations Day celebration at the UN Compound in Beijing. Approximately 200 participants from government, diplomacy, UN agencies, academia, civil society and business gathered to reaffirm the importance of international cooperation and sustainable development.

For SIHOO, the event connected a global conversation with something close to our everyday work: the environments in which people teach, create and collaborate. Our participation followed an earlier initiative with UNESCO to provide ergonomic chairs for teachers in Tanzania. These two distinct activities share a common thread—applying our expertise to support people in their working lives.

SIHOO at the United Nations Day Celebration

United Nations Day falls on October 24, marking the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. The Beijing celebration took place two days earlier, ahead of the organization’s 81st anniversary.

The event opened with a video message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and included remarks from Chinese and UN representatives. Discussions addressed the importance of cooperation in responding to interconnected challenges, including inequality, climate change and technological transformation.

SIHOO joined as a supporting partner, alongside media partner Yicai. In his opening remarks, Stephen Jackson, United Nations Resident Coordinator in China, expressed heartfelt thanks to SIHOO for its invaluable support.

The United Nations in China also covered the celebration in its official news release, highlighting the importance of multilateral cooperation and acknowledging SIHOO as a supporting partner. Read the official UN news release for more on the event and its wider context.

Dialogue and Seating Experience in Beijing

During the event, SIHOO representatives met with Stephen Jackson and other UN colleagues. Their discussions explored the relationship between the Sustainable Development Goals and how businesses put sustainable development principles into practice.

For our team, this offered an opportunity to discuss a question relevant to our field: how can a company use its particular capabilities to make a practical contribution?

SIHOO displayed several ergonomic seating products at the event, allowing guests to experience the chairs and speak with our representatives.

These moments gave our participation an everyday dimension. Alongside formal speeches and meetings, the chairs became part of a setting where guests paused and exchanged ideas.

An in-person experience also brings ergonomic design closer to the individual. People can sit, explore the available adjustments and consider how a chair accommodates their preferences. Different users bring different proportions, working habits and expectations—considerations that remain central to our approach to seating.

Supporting Teachers in Tanzania

A year earlier, SIHOO’s cooperation with UNESCO had focused on teachers’ working environments.

On April 28, 2025, SIHOO and UNESCO held a donation ceremony in Zanzibar under the theme of improving teachers’ working conditions. The initiative coincided with the 61st anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Tanzania.

SIHOO donated hundreds of ergonomic chairs, with a total value exceeding US$100,000, for teachers at schools in Zanzibar. The contribution applied our seating expertise to a specific need within education.

Teachers’ responsibilities extend beyond classroom instruction. Lesson preparation, reading, marking assignments and administrative work all require suitable places to work. Providing seating addressed one tangible part of that environment.

The initiative involved cooperation with UNESCO and local education stakeholders, connecting the donation with the institutions and people it was intended to support. For SIHOO, it demonstrated a practical way to contribute through our own capabilities while working alongside partners with local knowledge.

The connection with Beijing lies in this approach. The activities served different purposes, but both brought SIHOO into conversations about working conditions, partnership and responsibility.

Recognition from UNESCO

A letter dated May 19, 2025, acknowledged SIHOO’s contribution of ergonomic chairs and learning materials. Signed by Michel Toto, UNESCO’s Head of Office and Country Representative, it described support reaching education ministries and selected schools in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

The letter recognized the contribution to teaching and working environments and highlighted its connection with SDG 4, Quality Education, and SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth.

For SIHOO, this correspondence records a specific contribution and the cooperation behind it. It connects the materials provided with a broader effort to support education professionals and the environments in which they work.

It also provides context for our participation in the 2026 celebration: an opportunity to build on earlier experience and continue discussing how business expertise can support shared development objectives.

Connecting Global Goals with Everyday Work

The Sustainable Development Goals encompass responsibilities extending across countries, institutions and industries. Companies contribute within that wider effort through the capabilities relevant to their work.

SDG 4 addresses inclusive and equitable quality education, including effective learning environments and support for qualified teachers. SDG 8 covers productive employment and decent work, including labor rights and safe working environments.

Ergonomic seating is one practical consideration within this much broader agenda. Our contribution begins with attention to the physical experience of daily work: the support people need, the tasks they perform and the spaces they use.

From Tanzania’s schools to the Beijing celebration, that attention provides continuity. The donation placed chairs in educational settings; the event created opportunities for dialogue and direct product experience.

As we reflect on UN Day 2026, our focus returns to the individual—the teacher preparing a lesson, the professional completing a task, or the guest taking a seat to exchange an idea. These everyday moments are where SIHOO’s expertise finds its most immediate purpose, and where practical support becomes part of someone’s working life.
